Bridge City Strutters Win Nationals
Posted March 31st, 2008The Bridge City Strutter’s competition shirts say it all – “We’re Kind of a Big Deal” – and big deal they are after earning the title of Team National Champions in the medium team category. The Strutters earned the title of Team National Champions after competing in five team numbers and winning National Champions in three of those numbers. This is first for the Strutters and they could not be more pleased; a lot of hard work and dedication went into this year and the girls’ efforts have paid off with outstanding results.
The Strutters competed in the American Dance/Drill Team National/International Competition this weekend held in Denton, Texas at the University of North Texas. The Strutters performed five team numbers in the categories of prop, kick, jazz, novelty and open. They earned National Champion title in the categories of prop, kick and novelty and were 1st runner-up in the jazz category. They also competed in the International Competition earning International Champions in the categories of Kick and Novelty and 2nd runner up in prop category. The Strutters earned the International ranking of 5th out of 25 teams.
The Officers earned 2nd runner up in the medium team category by competing in three categories of novelty, lyrical and jazz. They were awarded 1st runner up in the jazz category, 2nd runner up in novelty and 2nd runner up in the lyrical category.
The Strutters also won the Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence which is awarded to teams that compete in 3 or more categories and scored higher than 90 in each category. They also earned 1st place ranking in Curtain Call Academic Champions award with a grade point average of 3.57.
Sarah English was named National Miss High Kick with Klacie Norris as the 1st runner up. Jordyn Ewing was named National JV Miss High Kick. These young ladies were chosen as kick finalists from camps or contests prior to National competition. More than 150 kick finalists tried out for National Miss High Kick.Allison Fitts and Katelyn Norman were both awarded Solo Finalist-3rd Runner Up-Medium Category, while Sarah English was award 6th place. Caitlin Villanoueva and Katelyn Broussard were awarded Duet Finalist -2nd place in medium category.
Cathy Riley was awarded Director Award of Excellence. This award is given to only two directors at the competition with over 120 directors present. This is a big honor for Mrs. Riley who was in total shock as she accepted her award. The girls could not have been more proud of their director as she was recognized as one of the best.

Klacie Norris, Katelyn Broussard, Carissa Saenz, Marla Carter, Lacey Serrette, Tara Townes, Emily Ginn, Gretchen Hollier, Katelyn Norman, Alyson Smith, Meghan Smith, Mallory Wappler, Jordyn Ewing, and Allison Morphew. Director is Cathy Riley and Assistant Director is Jane Busby.

Bridge City Strutters Win Regional Awards
Posted February 16th, 2008The Bridge City Strutters recently attended the American Dance Gussie Nell Davis Classic regional contest on Saturday, February 16, 2008, held at the Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas. The Strutters performed five team numbers in the categories of prop, kick, jazz, novelty and open. The Officers competed in three categories of novelty, lyrical and jazz. The Strutters were awarded a total of 12 teams trophies and officers were awarded a total of 10 trophies.
Team awards were as follows: 1st Place Runner-Up – Medium Team Category, 1st Runner-Up Academic Team Award (3.6 GPA), Best of the Best Overall Team (only five teams awarded out of 25), Sweepstakes Award of Excellence, Gussie Nell Davis Award, Best Overall Technique Award, Best Overall Choreography Award, Judges Award-Novelty, Judges Award-Prop, Judges Award-Kick, Judges Award-Jazz and Judges Award-Open.
The Officers were awarded the following: Winners Overall-Medium Team Category, Sweepstakes Award of Excellence, Gussie Nell Davis Award, Best Overall Presentation Award, Best Overall Technique Award, Best Overall Precision Award, Best Overall Choreography Award, Judges Award-Novelty, Judges Award-Lyrical and Judges Award-Jazz.
Allison Fitts was awarded Solo Finalist-1st Runner Up-Medium Category.

National Award-Winning Bridge City Strutters
Posted June 26th, 2007The Bridge City Strutters attended American Dance Drill Team camp held at Moody Gardens Hotel at Galveston on June 24-26, 2007. Evaluations consisted of a home routine and two routines taught at camp as well as discipline, unity, diligence, and attentiveness. The Strutters were awarded Home Routine Award, Super Sweepstakes, and All American Team of the Day and WEEK. The All American Team award is voted by the ADTS staff and is earned by excellent technique, diligence, and superb performances.

All American dancers are Hannah Dunahoe, Allison Fitts, Caitlin Villanoueva, Katelyn Broussard, Sarah English, and Marla Carter. All American Honorable Mention dancers are Klacie Norris, Kacie Wehmeyer, Carissa Saenz, Lindsay Garcia, Laura Clark, Ashley Angelle, Elizabeth Eddingston, Emily Ginn, and Mallory Wappler. Junior All American dancer is Freshman Allison Morphew.

All American Company Dancers are Allison Fitts, Hannah Dunahoe, and Sarah English. These are the elite dancers from the All American category and only seven were chosen from this camp.
High Kick Company members are Emily Ginn, Klacie Norris, Marla Carter, Sarah English, Hannah Dunahoe, and Allison Fitts.

The 2007-2008 Miss High Kick is Lt. Sarah English. Junior Miss High Kick is Freshman Jordyn Ewing. The Kick Company members will be vying for the title of Miss National High Kick in March of 2008.

2007 National/International Competition
Posted March 31st, 2007Bridge City Strutters perform their award winning Texas Skirt dance at National Competion in Denton, Texas.
Bridge City High School Strutters recently competed in Denton Texas at the National/International Competition held March 30-31, 2007. The Stutters competed in both the National and International Competition earning several awards including the National Title in the Medium Class Division in Props for their performance using their Texas Skirts pictured above. They were 2nd runner up in the Novelty Division and 1st runner up in the Opening Number Division. They were 2nd runner up in National Champion Team category and earned 1st place as the Academic Champions.
In the International Division they earned the 6th place ranking and were the 2nd runner up in the Prop division and 3rd runner up in the Opening Number Division. The Strutters competed against teams from all over the world including South Africa and Japan with a total of 23 International teams.
